Scanner
– A device that captures images or text from photographs, posters,
magazine pages or documents for computer editing and display.
SCSI – see Small Computer System Interface
Server – The end of a client/server setup.
It is usually a computer that provides information, files, Web pages,
and other services to clients that
log on to it.
Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) –
A standard interface that allows computers to communicate with peripheral
hardware such as tape drives,
CD-ROM drives, scanners
or disk drives. SCSI provides faster data transfer rates that parallel
connections.
Software – Written programs that allow
us to control the functioning of hardware
and direct its operation.
Sound card – A peripheral
device used to input, process and deliver sound when attached to an
ISA or PCI
slot on a motherboard.
Switch – A network device that selects
a path or circuit for sending a unit of data (or packet) to its next
destination.
System tray (Windows only) – A section of the taskbar found
on the desktop of the user interface that is used to display the clock
and the icons of programs that are available for use. Generally, it
is located in the bottom left of the screen. |
