Media Access Control
(MAC) Address – The address associated with your computer's
unique hardware number. It is
stored on your NIC and is translated
into IP addresses via ARP.
Macro – A group of commands and instructions used to accomplish
a task automatically.
MB - see Megabyte
Megabyte (MB) - one megabyte is equal to
1,048,576 bytes (2 to the power of 20 bytes).
Megahertz (MHz) – 1MHz = 1 million hertz (1,000,000 Hz).
It is a measure of wave frequency and is commonly used to describe
the speed at which a computer's processor runs (known as the "clock
speed").
Menu – A list of commands available for use in the program.
Merge – The combination or uniting of one file with another.
Message – A piece of mail that is
sent from one user to another by an email
or a chat program. It is also used to describe the information that
is passed between applications and the end users.
Modem – This word is derived from MODulator/DEModulator,
and is a device that allows digital information to be transmitted
over an analog phone line.
Monitor –A computer device that displays
information for the user to view and interact with.
Motherboard – The main board of a computer
that contains circuits for the CPU,
monitor, keyboard
and other components such as BIOS,
memory etc.
Mouse – A hand-held device that allows
you to move in all directions of the computer screen and select
operations or manipulate text or graphics.
