Hard drive
A hardware device that stores data in your computer. The data is stored
electormagnetically on the surface of small disks inside the unit
and can be retrieved relatively quickly by the user at anytime. Hard
drives come in a variety of storage sizes, example 15GB,
20GB, 40GB,
and 180GB etc.
Hardware A term used to describe the
physical components of the computer. Example: hard
drive, power supply, motherboard,
sound card, and video
card.
Homepage The first page your browser
goes to when opened or the main Web
page of a Web site.
Host A computer or program that provides services to other
computers or programs. Any system can be a host. The machine you log
into is your 'login host; the machine you read news from is a 'news
host', etc.
Hub A central device used to connect a
network together usually over an Ethernet
LAN. It allows information to flow through one central location to
any computer on the network.
Hyperlink Words or images that allow you to jump to another
Web page when clicked.
Hypertext A system of documents that allows you to reference
other documents using a link.
HyperText Markup Language (HTML) A coded
language used to format documents for the World
Wide Web. It consists of markup symbols that tell a browser how
a web page is intended to look.
HyperText Transport Protocol (HTTP) The
application protocol (or rules) that governs the transfer of files
(including websites) on the World Wide
Web. |
