Icon – A graphical image representing an object or program that when clicked opens a window or executes a function or control.

Import – The conversion of data to the format used in the current application from a different format used in another application. For example, using a word processing program you can import data from a spreadsheet program.

Inbox – The location where new e-mail messages are stored after being retrieved from a server.

Information Technology (IT) – Describes all areas of computer creation, access, use, storage, transport and management.

Input/Output (I/O) – Describes any device or function that moves data to or from a computer. I/O devices can be internal or external and include storage devices, printers, and keyboards.

International Standard Organization (ISO)
– An international organization that was established to develop standards for various areas of business including technology.

Internet – A world wide association of networks connected through several backbone networks. It is a network of networks that allows computers to communicate with other computers around the globe.

Internet Protocol (IP) – The standard method of communication (or protocol) used by computers on the Internet. Each computer connected to the Internet has a unique IP address and can act as a host for other computers to connect to it.

Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) – Associted with IBM AT motherboards, ISA is a connection architecture that allows the computer to communicate with ISA expansion slots and the devices that are connected to them.

Internet Service Provider (ISP) - Companies that provide access to the Internet to end users.

Intranet – A private network within a business. It may consist of only a few computers or could span multiple buildings to create a wide area network or WAN.
